Introduction
This guide explains how to add your Hosting Ireland email account to Outlook for Android using IMAP.
We recommend using IMAP when setting up your email account. IMAP keeps your emails stored on the mail server and syncs them between Webmail and your devices. For example, if you read or delete an email in Outlook on Android, the same change will show in Webmail and on any other devices using IMAP.
Before you start
Before setting up your email account, make sure you have:
- Created the email account in cPanel.
- The full email address you want to add.
- The password for that email account.
- Your incoming and outgoing mail server settings.
For help creating an email account, see:
How to create an email account
For help finding your email settings, see:
How to find your email settings
We also recommend logging in to Webmail before setting up the account in Outlook. This confirms that the email address and password are correct.

If you cannot log in to Webmail, reset the email password first:
How to reset your email password
Step One
How to start the setup
The first few steps depend on whether Outlook already has an account added.
If this is the first email account in Outlook
Open the Outlook app.
If you see the Welcome to Outlook screen, select Add Account.

Then go straight to Step Seven.
If Outlook already has another email account added
If Outlook opens to an inbox, follow Steps Two to Six below.
Step Two
Select the account icon in the top left-hand corner.

Step Three
Select the Settings cog in the bottom left-hand corner.

Step Four
On the Settings page, select Accounts.

Step Five
Select Add account.

Step Six
Select Add an email account.
You will now be taken to the same setup screen used for new Outlook users.

Step Seven
Enter the email address you want to add to Outlook.
Select Continue.

Step Eight
Outlook may ask what type of account you want to add.
Select IMAP.
We recommend IMAP for most customers because it keeps your mailbox synced between Outlook, Webmail and any other devices using the same email account.

Step Nine
Outlook will show the IMAP setup screen.
Turn on Advanced Settings.
This is important because Outlook must be given the correct incoming and outgoing server details from cPanel.
Enter the following details.
Account details
Email Address
Enter your full email address.
Display Name
Enter the name or business name you want people to see when you send them email.
Description
Enter a label for the account. This is only shown in Outlook on your device.
IMAP Incoming Email Server
IMAP Host Name
Enter the incoming server shown in cPanel.
This will usually look similar to:
server-name.webhostingireland.ie
For example:
stanhope.webhostingireland.ie
IMAP Port
993
IMAP Username
Enter your full email address.
IMAP Password
Enter the password for the email account.
SMTP Outgoing Email Server
SMTP Host Name
Enter the outgoing server shown in cPanel.
This will usually be the same server name used for the incoming server.
SMTP Port
465
SMTP Username
Enter your full email address.
SMTP Password
Enter the password for the email account.
Important: the SMTP username and SMTP password are required. Do not leave them blank. Outlook needs these details to send email from your account.
Once all details have been entered, select the tick in the top right-hand corner.

Step Ten
Outlook will check the account settings.
If the details are accepted, Outlook may ask whether you want to add another account.
Select Maybe Later.

Step Eleven
Your Hosting Ireland email account has now been added to Outlook for Android.
Open Outlook and check that you can send and receive email.
If setup fails
- If Outlook cannot connect to the account, check the following:Make sure the email address has been entered correctly.
- Make sure the username is your full email address.
- Make sure you are using the email account password, not your Client Area, cPanel, Microsoft or Outlook password.
- Confirm that you can log in to Webmail using the same email address and password.
- Make sure the incoming server matches the incoming hostname shown in cPanel.
- Make sure the outgoing SMTP server matches the outgoing hostname shown in cPanel.
- Make sure Advanced Settings is switched on.
- Make sure IMAP is using port 993.
- Make sure SMTP is using port 465.
- Make sure the outgoing SMTP username and password are filled in.
- Check that there are no spaces before or after the email address, password or server name.
If you recently reset the email password, remove the old saved password from Outlook and enter the new one manually.
