Introduction
This guide explains how to add your Hosting Ireland email account to Outlook (classic) using IMAP.
IMAP keeps your mailbox synced between Outlook, Webmail and any other devices connected to the same email account. For example, if you read, move or delete an email in Outlook, the same change will show in Webmail.
This guide is for Outlook (classic). If you are using the newer Outlook app, please follow this guide instead:
New Outlook for Windows IMAP setup guide
Before you start
Before setting up your email account, make sure you have:
- Created the email account in cPanel.
- The full email address you want to add.
- The password for that email account.
- Your incoming and outgoing mail server settings.
For help creating an email account, see:
How to create an email account
For help finding your email settings, see:
How to find your email settings
We also recommend logging in to Webmail before setting up the account on your Outlook. This confirms that the email address and password are correct.
For help logging in to Webmail, see:
If you cannot log in to Webmail, reset the email password first:
How to reset your email password
Step One
Open Outlook (classic).
If Outlook opens directly on the account setup screen asking for your email address, go straight to Step Three.
If Outlook opens to your mailbox, select File in the top left-hand corner.

Step Two
On the Account Information screen, select Add Account.

Step Three
Enter the email address you want to add to Outlook.
Select Advanced options.
Tick Let me set up my account manually.
Select Connect.

Step Four
Select IMAP.
We recommend IMAP for most customers because it keeps your mailbox synced between Outlook, Webmail and your other devices.

Step Five
Enter the incoming and outgoing mail settings shown in cPanel.
Use the Secure SSL/TLS Settings shown in cPanel under:
Email Accounts > Connect Devices > Mail Client Manual Settings
Incoming mail

Outgoing mail

The incoming and outgoing server names will usually look similar to:
server-name.webhostingireland.ie
Use the exact hostnames shown in cPanel for your own email account.
Once the settings have been entered, select Next.

Step Six
Enter the password for the email account.
This is the password for the mailbox, not your Hosting Ireland Client Area or cPanel password.
Select Connect.

Step Seven
Outlook should now confirm that the account has been added successfully.
Select Done.
Your Hosting Ireland email account should now appear in Outlook.

If Outlook cannot connect
Check the following:
- Make sure the email address has been entered correctly.
- Make sure you are using your full email address as the username.
- Make sure you are using the email account password, not your Client Area or cPanel password.
- Confirm that you can log in to Webmail using the same email address and password.
- Make sure the incoming and outgoing server names match the Secure SSL/TLS settings shown in cPanel.
- Make sure IMAP is using port 993 with SSL/TLS.
- Make sure SMTP is using port 465 with SSL/TLS.
- Check that there are no spaces before or after the email address, password or server names.
If Webmail does not accept the password, reset the email password in cPanel and then try adding the account again.
